The groves along the Avenue of the Giants are truly a tree lover’s paradise. They are huge. You will wander among 4 of the world's tallest 10 trees, drive right through a Redwood and stroll three miles through a pristine forest featuring trees which are well over 2,000 years old. Tours are limited to 6 people so you receive individualized attention - Tom loves answering questions, he is a font of knowledge about the forests of California.
We can arrange transportation if you like, you will be picked up in Garberville and driven along the Avenue of the Giants, as it weaves among the redwoods to Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Tom leads a leisurely walk through these magnificent groves, answering questions about the ecosystem. There will be plenty of time to take pictures. Tom’s happy to take photos for you. Tom likes to leave from Garberville at 9a.m. Later start times are possible in some cases with prior notice.
Tom Martell is a passionate naturalist who has been leading walking tours for nearly 30 years. He is also a published author, vocal advocate for the forests and a Sierra Club leader. Tom began guided tours here in Humboldt County when the sheer volume of crowds and traffic at Muir Woods began seriously impacting the fragile ecosystem and the people who call the area home. (Traffic to Muir Woods rose from 200,000 in 1987 to well over a million visitors per year in 2014.) - Come see Tom here in Garberville and he's show you majestic trees far older than those in Marin County.
